Prison Island

Prison Island, an old quarantine station, giant turtles and snorkeling. Join us for a half day trip to Prison Island. We will go by boat from the beach of Stone Town, which is located just 5 km from the beautiful island

Prison Island is a former prison that houses a hotel today. It was built in 1893 and was originally designed to house violent prisoners from the mainland and sick people.

You will be given the opportunity to visit the Turtle Reserve, which contains a large colony of giant turtles imported from Seychelles at the end of the 19th century. The average weight of these animals is 200 kg and many of them are over 150 years old. There will be an opportunity to touch the turtle and take pictures. The island is also home to a colony of beautiful peacocks.

For the rest of the trip, you can enjoy marine and underwater life where you snorkel around the corals surrounding the prison island, or just relax under the warm sunlight until you return to Stone Town.
